It’s the end of the year. I know you are busy. Due dates and holiday parties. But don’t forget to spend some time thinking about health insurance for 2023, especially if you buy an individual plan for you and your family.
Healthcare.gov, the federal marketplace where people who do not get insurance through a job and don’t qualify for Medicare or Medicaid can buy individual health plans, has its annual Open Enrollment Period through Jan. 15, 2023. But – to get coverage that starts Jan. 1, 2023, you have to sign up by Dec. 15. If you enroll between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15, your coverage starts Feb. 1, 2023.
And as I’ve talked about a lot lately, federal changes for 2023 mean more Louisiana families can qualify for financial aid to pay for Healthcare.gov plans, too.
So – which plan to pick? Taking the to shop around and explore your options now can save you a lot of hassle later. Remember to look at the 3 P’s for any plans you’re considering – that’s provider (who’s in the network?), prescriptions (what’s on the formulary and how much it costs?) and perks (plan extras like wellness services or digital resources).
