We’re still talking Open Enrollment here at Blue Cross! When I started working in healthcare, PPO, HMO, and all of those terms confused the heck out of me. I’ve learned a lot since then and I want to pass along some of that knowledge of the basics.
In this video (2:41), I compare health insurance shopping to visiting a car dealership. Both can be confusing, but if you know what features you are looking for in a car, I mean, health plan, it can take a lot of the anxiety out of shopping.
I have a cat scan scheduled 10 minutes from my house. Why would BCBS call me to give me the option of driving 3 hours to another facility in another town? Don’t you think maybe you should have some kind of mile radius limit when looking for options?
Nancy!
This is a great point. If you go to http://www.bcbsla.com and select “Save” and then “Compare Costs” you will be right in the Smart Saver App, and you can control lots of search functions including how far you are willing to drive to save money. Of course you don’t have to drive 3 hours away. Take a peek and control the responses yourself. I tell you, I’ve saved THOUSANDS that have stayed in my pocket using that app. It’s like gold!
Cheers!…mrb
